Sing me a song of a dreamy moor,
Where the maids at the shieling spin:
Lull me to sleep by the peat fire smoor,
When the soft night closes in.

Roadworks in Glen Varragill

Phase 3 of the roadworks in Glen Varragill is under way, right in time for the start of the visitor season. There will be disruption until mid-July.
Allow some extra time when driving between Sligachan and Portree.

Chef John Kelly's main restaurant is The Chandlery, at The Bosville Hotel in Portree. Here he offers a limited menu - about four choices of main course - that doesn't change much from month to month. The reward for the diner is that the dishes are rehearsed to something near perfection.

The Chandlery concentrates on food produced on Skye. It is a fresh and interestingly different menu. The 'earth and sea' salad, for example, combines duck and langoustine beautifully.

The Chandlery opened in 1998 and was Scotland's 'Restaurant of the Year' in 2004.

It is still very good.
