The toy museum in Glendale is a small affair – just the two front rooms of a house, packed with toys and games from times past. As the cliché goes, this is suitable for children of all ages. I think the most fun will be had by children aged between about forty and seventy.
The stuff on display ranges from antique china dolls, via the marbled rubber bucket and spade that was on every beach in the 1960s, to the games and models of Thunderbirds and Star Wars. There are trains, boats and planes
“Oh look! That’s the one I had.” “Wow. Do you remember these?” “My Mum used to have one – exactly the same!”
Hours of fun, in a very small space. There is a lot that you can get your hands on and play with. And there’s a good wee range of locally handmade wooden toys for sale too, at fair prices.
The museum is in Holmisdale House, Glendale, NG179491 in the far north-west of the island. There are plenty of signs, so it’s not hard to find.
I wouldn’t recommend that you travel all the way to Glendale just for the museum, but it is a must-see attraction if you are in the area anyway. You could easily combine it with a visit to Neist Point.
