The Isle of Skye Baking Company is a small local operation producing a range of great quality breads, shortbreads, oatcakes, biscuits and cakes. Their products are all a just bit different - and a bit special.

They don’t have their own shop, but their stuff can be found on the shelves of various outlets around Skye. A list of stockists is on their own website , and you can order online from there too. But if you are visiting Skye in the summer and looking for a treat, a gift or a souvenir, you can buy direct at the market in Somerled Square in Portree on Thursdays from 10.00am or in the Skye Gathering Hall in Portree on Fridays from 11.00am.

You won’t find the prices cheap, but everything is made by hand, using good raw ingredients – many of those from Skye itself. My own favourite is the Skye Seed Loaf, but I’m told the Blaven Beer fruit cake is excellent. Then there’s the cake made with ‘fruit seriously drenched in Talisker single malt whisky’. That must be worth a try…
