Based at Elgol jetty, AquaXplore is part of the same excellent organisation as the Bella Jane. The differences are marked though! Trips with AquaXplore are either on one of a pair of high-powered Humber RIBs or on a more conventional high speed vessel with more comfortable facilities. Each of the RIBs has 12 seats (you sit astride - a bit like a motorbike) and goes like the wind - about 30 knots actually. The other boat offers similar capacity and performance, but with bench seating, a heated wheelhouse, weather protection and wheelchair access. The guides/captains are great. They are skilled, safe, knowledgeable, personable, interesting and fun.
Coruisk on the Bella Jane
The Bella Jane is based at Elgol jetty. She plies between there and Coruisk, giving easy access to the dramatic Loch Coruisk. The service is useful as a route in and out of this remote area for walkers and climbers in the Cuillin, but most people on board are there to enjoy the cruise and the scenery.
There are several options for boat trips from Portree, but the Aspire is the one I recommend.
The owners, crew, guides, caterers and hosts are all the same people - and you couldn't wish for better. Kevin and Pam will look after you well. The Aspire herself is stylish and comfortable, with seating in the main cabin and out on the deck - making the most of the views and giving the best opportunities for spotting the abundant wildlife in the area. You can often see puffins, golden eagles, sea eagles, seals, basking sharks and porpoise on a trip along the Sound of Raasay, together with some amazing coast and mountain scenery. If you are lucky you can encounter otters, dolphin and minke whales too.
