Clothing

Ragamuffin is situated by the CalMac pier in Armadale. It's a great shop for designer knitwear , with brands such as The Quernstone, and Sophies Wild Woollens. There is also a good range of other clothing, and lots of accessories and gifts.

Skye Batiks offers a range of distinctive and original clothing. They have handloom clothing and batiks to suit all age groups, and both sexes. The stuff can be dressed up for the big occasion, or dressed down as excellent casual wear. They also sell great handbags, gifts, wall hangings, bedding and some of the best incense sticks ever.

The batik clothes and bedding may feel a little stiff, but they really do soften up and hang beautifully after a few washes.

The shop is just off The Green in Portree, opposite the HydroElectric showroom - and the website is here.

Down by the old pier in Broadford, near the Dunollie Hotel at NG645235, is The Handspinner Having Fun. Don't let the eccentric signs by the roadside put you off making a visit.

Alpaca, cashmere, mohair and merino. Knitwear and yarns. Off the peg and by commission. There are things here that deserve to be hung as works of art.

Unique, and world class.

Magpie (formerly Walkers & Wellies - a more descriptive name for the place) offers a tight but useful range of outdoor clothing and kit. Nothing flash or expensive, but just the job if you need a stove, torch, map, bobble hat or the like. They are next to the vet, in the old school on the main road in Harrapool, Broadford - at NG653230
