Because I live on Skye, I don't have a lot of experience of the island's accommodation options. There are other websites, such as Tripadvisor, Airbnb and Visit Scotland where you can read reviews and opinions. All I have done here is to give some guidance on what to look for, based on my general knowledge of the options available on Skye.
The Isle of Skye is hugely busy every summer. There are times when visitors end up sleeping on the floors of village halls because there are no beds available on the island. So do try to get your place to stay organised in good time!
Hotels
Flodigarry Hotel
Skye had a pretty good choice of hotel accommodation, from top end luxury to basic and traditional inns. Some of the best are:
In the north-east of the island
The Cuillin Hills Hotel (Portree)
The Bosville (Portree)
Marmalade (Portree)
Flodigarry Hotel (Staffin)
Sligachan Hotel
Skeabost
In the north-west
The House Over-By (The rooms of the Three Chimneys Restaurant in Colbost)
There are no towns or cities on Skye. The island's capital, Portree, is known as 'the village'. Elsewhere there are townships, communities or settlements.
